Heartless Review

Heartless by Marissa Meyer- 5/5 stars

“Sometimes your heart is the only thing worth listening to.”

Thank you so much to Pan Macmillan Australia for sending me a copy of this book to share my thoughts. I am so grateful that I was able to review a book by an author that I have loved in the past.

Synopsis:
Catherine may be one of the most desired girls in Wonderland and a favourite of the unmarried King, but her interests lie elsewhere. A talented baker, she wants to open a shop and create delectable pastries. But for her mother, such a goal is unthinkable for a woman who could be a queen.
At a royal ball where Cath is expected to receive the King’s marriage proposal, she meets handsome and mysterious Jest. For the first time, she feels the pull of true attraction. At the risk of offending the King and infuriating her parents, she and Jest enter into a secret courtship.
Cath is determined to choose her own destiny. But in a land thriving with magic, madness, and monsters, fate has other plans.

My review:
Marissa Meyer has done it again. The queen of fairytale retellings. First the Lunar Chronicles series and now Heartless. The writing style in this book is so descriptive and easy to follow. I just flew through the whole book as it was so addictive and fast paced.

The whole story was a great twist on the beloved Fairytale Alice and Wonderland. I love it how we got to follow the Queen of Hearts and she how she became so cruel and evil. The character development in this book was composed perfectly.

The characters in this book were so unique. I loved Cath. She was the typical royal who wanted to have a normal life. It is so easy to relate with her and to feel all of her emotions. I love the fact that she has a hobby that is one of the factors from stopping her to become queen.

“You’re the daughter of a marquess. Look around. Look at the things you have, the life you’re accustomed to. You don’t know what it’s like to work every day so you can feed yourself and keep a roof over your head. You don’t know what it’s like to be poor. To be a servant.”

The love triangle aspect was in this book but it wasn’t prominent as she never liked one of the men. It didn’t matter that much so it didn’t bother me.

This story has something in it for everyone. We have hilarious moments, yummy food, riddles, parents who control their daughter and even a hot guy.

I recommend this book to anyone that loves fairytale retellings, Alice in Wonderland or Marissa Meyer. It was a perfect and fast paced standalone. If you are interested in buying this book you can purchase it from Pan Macmillan , Book Depository , BooktopiaΒ and Amazon. Thank you for taking the time to read my review. Please give it a like and please let me know in the comments below what you thought of Heartless.
